Management of Force Covid-19 Funds: Amadou Ba to Start Explanation Rounds

The Head of government enters the scene too, to try to defuse the bomb that constitutes the report of the Court of Auditors on the management of funds to fight against the effects of Covid-19. He will begin by receiving civil society next Tuesday, before continuing with the technical and financial partners.

There is no more time to lose, it seems. Although the hot potato of the report of the Court of Auditors on the management of the 1000 billion of the Fund to fight against the effects of Covid has been passed on to Justice, after the referral to the Minister of Justice by the First President of the Court of accounts, the government does not want to stop there. The Prime Minister has already issued the invitations on his part.

We know that Amadou Ba has invited all the components of the said civil society, without any exception to a meeting in the premises of the head of government, on Tuesday, January 3, at 11 a.m. It will be for an explanatory session on what the State wants to do so that justice is done in this case. It has been noted that several components of the said Civil Society have mobilised to obtain the « head » of the presumed culprits of embezzlement. As soon as the report was published, the Civil Forum, through its president, Mr. Birahim Seck, stepped up the plate to ask the Head of State and the public prosecutor to take measures against those implicated.

Mr. Seck did not miss any opportunity to educate all those who could be on this file. It is also part, with other organisations, of the initiators of today’s rally at Place de la Nation (formerly known as Place Obelisk). The saiddemonstration, like the concert of pans that the opposition coalition, Yewwi askan wi, has requested for tomorrow, aims to ensure that the economic crime of embezzling the sums intended for the fight against the pandemic and its effects, is not stored in the cupboards.

It should be noted that the Prime Minister has already planned, after his briefing session with the civil society movements, to also meet the technical and financial partners, as well as the diplomatic missions accredited in Senegal. This, again for explanations about the management of funds collected as part of the fight against Covid-19 and its social and economic effects.

It is as if, paralysed by the report’s release and the reactions that followed, the government has suddenly decided to catch up with time and to communicate in all directions. A week after the appearance of two members of the government in front of the journalists, to indicate that the sums in dispute related to just over 6 billion Cfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs also began her counter-fire exercise. The entry into play of the Prime Minister should, logically, end this exercise and convince the citizens. Otherwise, it would be considered a patent failure.
