After Mame Mbaye, Sonko Faces Adji Sarr 16 May: Nemekou Tour in Court

The trial of the alleged rape case between Adji Sarr and the Pastef party leader will commence May 16. The news fell yesterday. Accused of « repetitive rape » and « death threats », Ousmane Sonko denied the facts and pointed an accusing finger at President Macky Sall. For him, it is a plot orchestrated by the Head of State and his political coalition, Benno bokk yaakaar (Bby), and he claims to have placed in the file an internal report from the gendarmerie attesting to the veracity of his remarks.

May 16! It is a date that Ousmane Sonko and Adji Sarr will certainly mark in their agenda. The Sweet Beauté case, opposing the leader of the Pastef/The Patriots party to the former masseuse, will be listed on May 16, one week after the trial in second instance of the defamation case relating to accusations over the management 29 billion from Prodac and pitting the Minister of Tourism, Mame Mbaye Niang, against Ousmane Sonko.  The mayor of Ziguinchor is, in fact, accused by Adji Sarr of « repetitive rape » and « death threats ». The trial will take place before the Criminal Chamber of Dakar that Ousmane Sonko had challenged. The holding of this trial before the Criminal Chambers of the Dakar High Court was no longer in doubt when on April 24, the Supreme Court dismissed the president of the Pastef party, deeming his appeal inadmissible.  In fact, Ousmane Sonko had lodged an appeal in Cassation against the order of the Dean of the judges, who sent the case to the Criminal Chamber.

The Supreme Court is thus in line with the Indictment Chamber. Declaring inadmissible the appeal of the lawyers of the leader of the Pastef party against the order of the Dean of the investigating judges, who sent their client to the Criminal Chamber. The latter had raised an objection of unconstitutionality. Believing that the Constitution was violated from the moment the defense was deprived of the right to appeal the remand order. Sonko’s counsel wanted the second-degree investigating court to forward the case to the Constitutional Council. But the indictment chamber rejected their request. And the Supreme Court, the last resort, has just followed suit.

The Indictment Chamber, which was due to rule Thursday, February 9 on the appeal request filed by Ousmane Sonko’s counsel, finally ruled on the dismissal order of the Dean of Judges, Maham Diallo. It was at the request of Sonko’s lawyers that the first hearing was postponed to February 14. On January 17, the Dean of the judges sent the opponent Ousmane Sonko, accused by the ex-masseuse Adji Sarr, and the owner of the Sweet Beauté salon, Ndèye Khady Ndiaye, before the Criminal Chambers. The first for “repetitive rape and death threats”, and the second for “incitement to debauchery, dissemination of images contrary to morality and complicity in rape. Need we remind you that, Ousmane Sonko has always denied the facts with which he is charged. The mayor of Ziguinchor believes that the case should have been closed at the end of the preliminary investigation carried out by the Research Section of the Gendarmerie.

The leader of the « Patriots » affirmed that the medical certificate produced by the prosecution removes any suspicion of rape. The declared presidential candidate of 2024 has repeatedly claimed to have evidence of a plot against his person aimed at liquidating him politically. He announced that he had filed an internal report from the gendarmerie to support his claims. This Adji Sarr/Ousmane Sonko affair has already caused the death of 14 people. In fact, when the leader of the “Patriots” was summoned to court following the lifting of his parliamentary immunity in March 2021, Sonko, who had decided not to comply with the summons, asserting his right to resistance, finally reversed his decision. He asked his militants to accompany him to the Tribunal.

The leader of the “Patriots” was finally arrested on the road for “disturbing public order”. This is the beginning of a chaotic situation. Protests broke out across the country. Unfortunately, these clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators resulted in 14 deaths. Finally, Ousmane Sonko was placed under judicial control.
